HISTORY OF THE PADRE PIO PRAYER GROUPS
"From the beginning, Pope Pius XII exhorted the faithful to gather together and pray often as a community. The Holy Father's invitation for groups of the faithful to gather for prayer was picked up by the faithful as World War II loomed on the horizon. This war would divide and disperse millions of people. If war divides and disperses, then prayer would bring together and unite."
"Understanding the value and need to pray always, Padre Pio accepted the repeated pleas of Pope Pius XII and encouraged the faithful to gather in groups to pray according to the intentions of the Holy Father. In 1947, at Padre Pio's invitation, Prayer groups were spontaneously springing up and taking on a more stable form; their sole desire was to pray and pray together."

HOW TO BECOME A SPIRITUAL CHILD OF PADRE PIO
The spirituality of Padre Pio attracts those who hunger for heavenly knowledge, guidance from above, and a meaningful way to live their faith. His words reassure us of his love for us today and his continual guidance in our present lives.
"I love my spiritual children as much as I love my own soul and even more. I can forget myself, but not my spiritual children. Indeed, I can assure you, that when the LORD calls me, I will say to Him: 'LORD, I will remain at the gates of Paradise; I will go in when I have seen the last of my children enter.'"
To those who asked to be his spiritual children, he gave the following conditions. We need only ask him, in faith, to be our spiritual father.
-Live immensely on God's Grace and make use of the Sacraments often: the Eucharist and Reconciliation
-Live one's faith in words and actions in a true Christian life
-Love Jesus Christ crucified, the Most Blessed Sacrament, our Blessed Mother, the Holy Father and the Roman Catholic Church
-Be pro-active and animated by a sincere spirit of charity toward all

HOW TO CREATE A PADRE PIO PRAYER GROUP AT YOUR PARISH
"The Prayer groups are a response to the spiritual needs of our times as perceived by Padre Pio of Pietrelcina."
-Foreword of the New Statues of the Prayer Groups of Padre Pio
Preceding World War II, in an effort to organize his children and utilize the praying power of they held, Padre Pio followed the call from Pope Pius XII to gather together his spiritual children from around the world to pray. He knew the praying power of the groups when he said, "Many, many more will come in the future, and my arms will stretch out until I can embrace the whole world."
